Q:
How to inspect the alternator/air conditioning compressor and power steering pump drivebelts in Toyota Sienna? Posted by Customer
A:
For 2006 and earlier models, the alternator/air conditioning compressor and power steering pump drivebelts are located at the right end of the engine. These belts should be periodically inspected for wear and proper adjustment. The vehicles are equipped with two belts, one for the alternator and air conditioning compressor, and another for the power steering pump. To check the belts, open the hood and visually inspect each belt for any signs of wear. Use your fingers to feel the belt where you can't see it. If the belt is worn, it should be replaced. To check the tension of each belt, you can use a belt tension gauge or a rule of thumb method. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the appropriate bolts and adjust the belt tension accordingly. To replace a belt, follow the adjustment procedures and slip the old belt off the crankshaft pulley. It is recommended to replace both belts at the same time. For 2007 and later models, these vehicles are equipped with one belt that is automatically tensioned by a tensioner pulley. The checks for belt condition are the same as earlier models. To replace the belt, loosen the lug nuts of the right front wheel, raise the vehicle and remove the wheel. Remove the inner fender splash shield for access to the tensioner pulley. Loosen the tensioner pulley and remove the old belt. Install the replacement belt according to the underhood routing diagram sticker and verify that it is correctly centered on each pulley.
