How to replace the parking brake cable? Posted by Customer: A:
To release the parking brake, first loosen the rear wheel lug nuts and raise the vehicle securely on jackstands. Remove the wheels. Next, loosen the adjusting nut to take tension off the cable. Depending on the model, disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever and detach the cable housing from the brake backing plate or bellcrank. Disengage the cable from the equalizer or intermediate lever. Detach all cable brackets from the frame or axle. To install, reverse the removal process. Finally, adjust the cable as necessary and remove the jackstands to lower the vehicle.
