Toyota 46430-08020 Cable Assembly, Parking Brake

To replace the equalizer-to-parking brake cable, first loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands while blocking the front wheels, then remove the rear wheels. Ensure the parking brake is fully released before removing the brake drum. Next, take out the brake shoes and disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever at the rear shoe. Detach the cable housing from the backing plate by compressing the clips on the shoe side until the cable can be pushed through. Unbolt all cable brackets located between the rear wheels and the equalizer, then remove the two nuts to release the equalizer from the forward cable by aligning the cable with the slot in the equalizer and sliding the cable end out. Disconnect the cable ends from the equalizer in the same manner. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, and the parking brake should be adjusted afterward. For the parking brake pedal-to-equalizer connection, release the parking brake pedal and remove the knee bolster to access the parking brake pedal bracket sub-assembly. Remove the clip, pull out the clevis pin, and disconnect the parking brake cable from the pedal assembly. Tie a wire to the end of the released cable, then remove the clip securing the front cable to the floor ahead of the equalizer. Pull the cable out through the floor, attach the pull-wire to the new cable, and pull the new cable into position, securing it to the floor ahead of the equalizer. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.
