To adjust the throttle linkage, have an assistant hold the throttle pedal down while verifying that the throttle linkage opens fully. If it does not, ask your assistant to keep the pedal down while loosening the adjusting nuts and adjusting the throttle cable until the mark or stopper is at the specified distance from the boot end. After tightening the adjusting nuts securely, recheck the clearance to ensure the linkage opens completely when the throttle is depressed. For replacement, first remove the battery, then unbolt the cruise control actuator to access the throttle cable at the transmission. Disconnect the throttle cable end from the throttle body, then remove the transmission position switch and the valve body behind it on the transmission case. Next, remove the cable end mounting bolt and the cable from the transmission, insert the new cable at the transmission, and adjust it. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.

To remove the accelerator cable, start by detaching the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, loosen the locknut on the threaded portion of the cable at the throttle body and slip the cable end out of the slot in the throttle lever. Detach the cable from the accelerator pedal and pull it and the casing out of the firewall into the engine compartment. To install the cable, simply reverse the removal steps. To adjust the cable, lift up on it to remove any slack and turn the adjusting nut until it is 1/8 inch away from the cable bracket. Tighten the locknut and check the cable deflection between the throttle lever and the casing, adjusting as necessary. Verify that the throttle valve opens fully and returns to idle smoothly with the assistance of another person. The cable must not bind or stick.
