When removing Car Batteries Cable, always disconnect negative battery terminal first and hook up last to avoid shorting out battery. Even if only replacing positive cable, crucial to disconnect negative cable first. After disconnecting old cables from battery, trace each to opposite ends and disconnect, noting routing for correct installation. If replacing old cables, take them when buying new ones for identical parts. Clean solenoid or ground connection threads with wire brush to remove rust and corrosion, apply light coat of corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly to prevent future corrosion. Attach cable to solenoid or ground connection, tighten mounting nut/bolt securely. Before connecting new cable to battery, ensure it reaches post without needing to be stretched. Finally, connect cable to positive battery terminal first, followed by connecting ground cable to negative battery terminal.
