Q:
How to replace the condenser unit and add compressor oil to the system? Posted by Customer
A:
If the condenser is to be replaced with a new unit, add 1.4 to 1.7 fluid ounces of compressor oil to the system. First, have the refrigerant discharged by an air conditioning technician. Then, remove the front grille, the hood lock brace and center support brace for access. Disconnect the condenser inlet and outlet fittings. When disconnecting the condenser refrigerant lines, use two wrenches to prevent twisting the lines. Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture and contamination out of the system. The left-side fitting is connected to the receiver/drier. Next, remove the condenser mounting bolts, pull the condenser forward and lift it out. Install the condenser, brackets and bolts, making sure the rubber cushions fit on the mounting points properly. Reconnect the refrigerant lines, using new 0-rings where needed. If a new condenser has been installed, add approximately 1.4 to 1.7 ounces (50 cc) of new refrigerant oil of the correct type (R-134a). Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Finally, have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
