Q:
How to remove and install a A/C Condenser? Posted by Customer
A:
The receiver-drier should be replaced whenever the condenser is replaced. To do this, take the vehicle to a dealer service department or automotive air conditioning shop and have the air conditioning system discharged and the refrigerant recovered. Then, disconnect the upper and lower refrigerant lines on the front of the condenser. Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture and contamination out of the system. Remove the condenser mounting bolts and brackets. Lower the condenser, angling the bottom toward the front of the vehicle as it comes down. Be careful not to damage the cooling fins of the radiator. Depending on the height of the vehicle, it might be necessary to raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands to provide enough clearance. To install the condenser, install the condenser, brackets and bolts, making sure the rubber cushions fit on the mounting points properly. Reconnect the refrigerant lines, using new O-rings where needed. If a new condenser has been installed, replace any O-rings with new ones specifically made for the type of refrigerant in your system and lubricate them with refrigerant oil, also designed specifically for your system (R-134a). Finally, have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
