Before starting your brake master cylinder repair, learn about the options to replace it with new or factory rebuilt parts and find out where to get them. Wrap some rag pieces under each brake line fitting to stop fluid from spilling. Keep caps or plastic bags ready to cover the open line ends immediately when it's disconnected, as brake fluid can ruin painted surfaces. Also, put coverings on any painted parts before starting. Disconnect the brake master cylinder's tap to measure brake fluid level warning signal. Apply a flare-nut wrench to slowly turn and loosen the tube nuts that let brake lines enter the brake master cylinder. This helps you avoid rounding off the flat shapes on these nuts. Detach the brake lines from the brake master cylinder just enough to seal each end with plugging. Lay out your vehicle and remove the two nuts that hold the brake master cylinder. Be careful while you do this not to pinch or damage the hydraulic pipes. Then take the brake master cylinder out. Yank off and toss away any liquid in the reservoir by taking out its cap. Before putting the brake master cylinder back, you need to bleed all the hydraulic lines fully - doing it in advance reduces the needed time if you first fill the cylinder with fluid and use the bench bleed method. Put the brake master cylinder into a vise with soft clamps that grip the cylinder flange, then fill the reservoirs with brake fluid. When reinstalling the brake lines, use your hands to block the normal connection holes to keep air from getting back into the brake master cylinder. Push the piston down several times slowly, making sure all air leaves by using a Phillips screwdriver to press on the piston assembly, waiting a few seconds after each push for brake fluid to enter the piston tube from the reservoir before continuing. Keep your fingers over the holes while you do this. Otherwise, put temporary coverings in the openings after you finish bleeding. Reinstall the brake master cylinder according to the steps you used for removal, then perform a complete brake system bleed.
