Q:
How to inspect the brake disc on Toyota Sequoia and Toyota Tundra? Posted by Customer
A:
To inspect the brake disc, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Apply the parking brake and remove the wheel. Reinstall the lug nuts to hold the disc in place against the hub. Remove the brake caliper and hang it with a length of wire, making sure not to let it hang by the brake hose or line. If it's a front caliper, unclip the brake line from the bracket on the steering knuckle. For a rear disc, remove the brake pads. Visually inspect the disc surface for score marks and other damage, checking both sides. To check disc runout, place a dial indicator about 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the disc and turn the disc. If there is excessive runout, the disc should be refinished. Measure the disc thickness with a micrometer, making sure it is not less than the specified minimum thickness. To remove and install the disc, remove the brake caliper and mounting bracket if necessary. Remove the lug nuts and pull off the disc. For rear disc models, if the disc won't come off, remove the rubber plug on the hub face and use a screwdriver to push the star wheel adjuster downwards. If the disc still can't be removed, insert two bolts into the hub section and tighten them evenly until the drum can be removed. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure to tighten all brake fasteners and the wheel lug nuts.
