Q:
How to replace the air filter in a Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia? Posted by Customer
A:
Never drive the vehicle with the air filter removed. Excessive engine wear could result and backfiring could even cause a fire under the hood. At the specified intervals, the air filter should be replaced with a new one. A thorough preventive maintenance schedule would also require the filler to be inspected between filter changes. For 2010 and earlier models with 1GR-FE V6 engines, the air filter housing is located on the right side of the intake manifold plenum. To remove the air filter housing, open the two retaining clips and swing it open. Remove the air filter element from the housing and wipe out the inside with a clean rag. Inspect the outer surface of the filter element and replace if dirty. If moderately dusty, blow it out with low-pressure compressed air. For 2011 and later models, the air filter housing is mounted in the right front corner of the engine compartment. Remove the cover retaining screws and detach interfering hoses. Lift the air filter element out of the housing and wipe the inside clean. Inspect the outer surface and replace if dirty. If moderately dusty, blow it clean with compressed air. For V8 engines, unlatch the cover retaining clips and detach interfering hoses. Lift the air filter element out of the housing and wipe the inside clean. Inspect the outer surface and replace if dirty. If moderately dusty, blow it clean with compressed air. Place the new filter in the air filter housing, ensuring it seats properly.
