Toyota 88501-20210 EVAPORATOR Sub-Assembly, Cooler

Have the refrigerant discharged at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. Disconnect the negative lead from the battery. Caution: If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, before detaching the cable. Working in the engine compartment disconnect the suction and liquid tubes, use a back-up wrench to avoid twisting and damaging the lines. Immediately cap the open fittings to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture and remove the inlet and outlet grommets. Remove the glove box and the reinforcement bar. Disconnect all electrical connectors and tubing from the assembly, remove the mounting nuts and bolts and pull the unit free. To remove the evaporator disconnect all connectors, unfasten the retaining clips and remove the retaining screws. Check the evaporator fins for blockage; if they are dirty clean them with compressed air - never use water for this purpose! Check fittings for cracks and signs of wear; replace parts as necessary. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to replace all O-rings removed during disassembly with new ones. If a new evaporator was installed, add 1.4 to 1.7 ounces (40 to 50cc) of refrigerant oil to the system. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
