Q:
How to remove and install the steering gear on Toyota Sequoia and Toyota Tundra? Posted by Customer
A:
On 2008 through 2015 Sequoia models and 2010 through 2017 Tundra models, the engine must be removed before the rack and pinion can be removed from the vehicle. Park the vehicle with the front wheels pointing straight ahead. Loosen the wheel lug nuts. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Apply the parking brake. Remove the wheels. Remove the under-vehicle splash shield. Disconnect the tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles. Remove the stabilizer bar. Mark the relationship of the U-joint to the intermediate shaft and the rack and pinion, remove the U-joint pinch bolts, then slide the U-joint up and off the rack and pinion input shaft. Remove the oil filter bracket on 1UR-FE, 3UR-FE and 3UR-FBE engines. Disconnect the pressure and return lines from the rack and pinion. On 2016 and later models, remove the front differential assembly. Remove the rack and pinion mounting fasteners. Move the rack and pinion to the right until the left side of the rack and pinion can be dropped down, then slide the rack and pinion down and out of the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Align the matchmarks made and tighten all suspension and rack and pinion fasteners. Tighten the wheel lug nuts. Bleed the power steering system.
