As the first step to detach the upper intake plenum on Toyota Solara cars, you need to ease pressure from the fuel system and take the negative cable off the battery. Pull up the V-bank cover by turning the Allen head screw to take out the screws, drain the coolant, and set it aside. Detach the air cleaner, then disconnect the electrical, vacuum, and coolant hoses linking the throttle body. Then disconnect the throttle cable. You can leave the throttle body connected, unless you need to clean or fix the gaskets on it. Take off the front suspension brace where it connects the shock towers together on Solara models. Also, disconnect the EGR pipe attached to the intake plenum and detach each of the two braces holding the intake plenum to the firewall near the rear cylinder head. Loosen all bolts and nuts connecting the plenum to the intake manifold below. Then lift off the plenum. It's easy to disconnect the fuel injectors' electric wires: Just remember that you can do it with the injectors and fuel rails still connected or separately. Cut off climate and air helper hoses from intake manifold at its left end, and disconnect fuel line from thefuel rail. Loosen and take off the eight mounting nuts/bolts that hold the manifold to the engine, but be careful not to apply pressure to the gasketed parts, or you risk damaging them. You should replace your water transfer hose whenever you need to repair other parts in the area. Before installing, scrub off old gasket material and sealant from both the manifold and cylinder heads, then carefully wipe clean their contact areas. Put the new gaskets in place, put the manifold on top of the engine, check that the gaskets stayed in their right spot, and tighten all nuts/bolts equally in three to four steps. After putting back the main assembly pieces, add new heater and liquid flow pieces, reassemble the plenum with a fresh gasket, replace all cooling liquids, let the car idle to locate any engine stoppage reasons.
