Q:
How to remove and install an intake manifold on V6 engine for 2002 through 2008 Toyota Solara and 2002 through 2006 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the upper intake plenum, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant and remove the V-bank cover and air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the electrical connectors, vacuum and coolant bypass hoses from the throttle body, and disconnect the throttle motor connector. Remove the front suspension brace (if applicable) and unbolt the intake plenum braces at the rear cylinder head. Finally, remove the bolts and nuts holding the plenum to the lower intake manifold. To remove the lower intake manifold, disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors and detach the air assist and heater hoses. Remove the fuel line from the fuel rail and then remove the mounting bolts and nuts to detach the manifold from the engine. Replace the water transfer hose if necessary. For installation, clean the mating surfaces, install new gaskets, and position the manifold on the engine. Tighten the nuts/bolts in three or four equal steps. Finally, reinstall the remaining parts and refill the cooling system, checking for any leaks.
