Q:
How to replace spark plug on Toyota T100,1995 through 2004 Toyota Tacoma and 1996 through 2002 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
A:
Spark plug replacement requires a spark plug socket, torque wrench, ratchet, extension, and spark plug gap gauge. The spark plug socket is lined with a rubber grommet to protect the porcelain insulator of the spark plug and hold it in place during installation. The torque wrench is used to tighten the new plugs to the specified torque. When purchasing new spark plugs, it is important to obtain the correct plugs for your specific vehicle, which can be found in the Specifications Section, VEGI label, or owner's manual. Inspect the new plugs for defects, such as cracks in the porcelain insulator. Check the electrode gaps of the new plugs using a wire gauge, adjusting if necessary. To remove the spark plugs, work on one plug at a time, removing the wire and boot by twisting and pulling. Use compressed air to remove any dirt or foreign material from the spark plug area. Unscrew the spark plug using a socket wrench with a long extension. Compare each old spark plug with a chart to determine the engine's overall running condition. Prior to installation, apply anti-seize compound to the plug threads and use a short piece of rubber hose to help align the plug with the plug hole and prevent cross-threading. Tighten the plug to the specified torque and attach the plug wire using a twisting motion. Repeat this process for the remaining spark plugs to prevent mixing up the wires.
