Q:
How to remove and install a power steering pump? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the engine cover. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the accessory drivebelt or serpentine drivebelt. Remove the right front wheel. Remove the plastic clips from the the rubber seal on the inner fenderwell splash shield, and remove the seal. Remove the drivebelt. Disconnect the electrical connector from the power steering pressure switch. Position a drain pan under the power steering pump. Disconnect the pressure and return hoses from the backside of the pump. Plug the hoses to prevent contaminants from entering. Discard the sealing washers - new ones should be used during installation. Rotate the pump pulley to access the two mounting bolts through the pulley. Remove the pump mounting fasteners and lift the pump out through the wheelwell, taking care not to spill fluid on the painted surfaces. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use new sealing washers on either side of the pressure line fitting. Tighten the pressure line union boll and the pump mounting bolts and nuts. Fill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid and bleed the system.
