Q:
How to remove and install a water pump in a Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Drain the cooling system. Remove the engine cover. Remove the engine splash shield. Remove the drivebelt(s). Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove the fan shroud and cooling fan. Disconnect the harness from the bracket. If you're working on a 1UR-FE engine, remove the air conditioning compressor and position it aside. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses from both ends of the tubes, then remove the cooler tube mounting bolts and tubes from the front of the engine. Disconnect the bypass hoses from the water inlet assembly, remove the mounting bolts, and separate the water inlet from the engine. Using a holding tool, remove the water pump pulley bolts. Remove the water pump mounting bolts and separate the pump from the engine block. Remove and discard the O-ring for the coolant bypass pipe from the water pump. Thoroughly clean the gasket surface of the water pump and water inlet assembly. Install a new gasket and water pump. Tighten the water pump bolts to the specified torque. Install a new water inlet O-ring; if necessary, apply RTV sealant to hold the O-ring in place. Install the water inlet and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for leaks.
