Q:
How to remove and install a fuel pressure regulator in a V6 or four-cylinder engine? Posted by Customer
A:
Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. V6 MODELS Note: The fuel pressure regulator is located at the rear end of the right fuel rail. Remove the engine cover. Remove the air filter housing. Remove the fuel rail and injectors. Remove the fuel pressure regulator mounting bolts and remove the pressure regulator. Remove and discard the old pressure- regulator 0-ring. Always use a new 0-ring when installing the old fuel pressure regulator or a new unit. Coat the new 0-ring with some clean engine oil and install it on the pressure regulator. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the pressure regulator mounting bolts to the torque. FOUR-CYLINDER MODELS Note: The fuel pressure regulator is located at the front end of the fuel rail. Remove the intake air connector. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the fuel return line from the fuel pressure regulator pipe. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the throttle body and from the EGR purge valve, then detach the engine wiring harness clamp, remove the boll that secures the harness clamp bracket and push the harness aside. Remove the two bolts that secure the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel rail, remove the boll that secures the rear end of the pressure regulator return pipe and remove the regulator. Remove and discard the old fuel pressure regulator O-ring. Always use a new O-ring when installing the old fuel pressure regulator or a new unit. Coat the new O-ring with clean engine oil and install it on the pressure regulator. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fuel pressure regulator bolts to the torque.
