Q:
How to drain and replace transmission fluid and Filter at specified intervals on Toyota T100,Toyota 4Runner and 1995 through 2004 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
A:
At specified intervals, drain and replace the transmission fluid. Only perform this procedure after the engine has cooled down completely. Before starting, purchase the recommended transmission fluid and a new filter. Other tools needed include a floor jack, jackstands, a drain pan, newspapers, and clean rags. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Place the drain pan under the transmission pan and remove the drain plug. Let the fluid drain completely, then reinstall the drain plug. Remove the transmission pan rock shield (if equipped) and the pan mounting bolts. Use a rubber mallet to tap on the pan and break the gasket seal. Lower the pan and drain the remaining fluid. Remove the filter retaining screws and the filter. Inspect the pan, filter, and fluid for any issues. Clean the pan and remove any old gasket material. Install a new filter and gasket. Apply RTV sealant to the pan and reinsert the filler tube. Place the pan against the transmission case and tighten the bolts. Lower the vehicle and add three quarts of transmission fluid. Start the engine and move the gear selector through each range. Check the fluid level and add more if necessary. Look for leaks under the vehicle during the first few trips. Check the fluid level again when the transmission is hot.
