Q:
What is the location and function of the brake light switch on Toyota 4Runner,Toyota T100 and 1995 through 2004 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
A:
The brake light switch is located at the top of the brake pedal assembly and can be accessed by removing the trim panel beneath the steering column. It is responsible for opening and closing the brake light circuit, allowing current to flow to the brake lights when the pedal is depressed. If the brake lights are not working, it is recommended to first check the fuse and bulbs. If those are okay, verify that voltage is available at the switch. If there is no voltage, there may be an open circuit between the fuse block and the switch. If there is voltage, but the brake lights still do not work, look for an open circuit between the switch and the brake lights. To replace the switch, remove the trim panel below the steering column, unplug the electrical connector, remove the locknut, and then remove the switch from its bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal, and the switch should be adjusted afterwards.
