Q:
What are the safety precautions to take when repairing a fuel tank or filler neck of a Toyota Avalon and Toyota Solara? Posted by Customer
A:
It is crucial to entrust any repairs involving the fuel tank or filler neck to a professional with experience in this field due to the critical and potentially dangerous nature of the work involved. Even after cleaning and flushing the fuel system, there is a risk of explosive fumes remaining, which can ignite during tank repairs. If the fuel tank needs to be removed from the vehicle, it should never be placed in an area where sparks or open flames are present, as these can ignite the fumes emitted by the tank. Extra caution should be exercised when working in garages where gas-type appliances are located. Safety precautions must be followed meticulously to mitigate the risks associated with fuel tank repairs.

Q:
How to remove and install a fuel tank on 2002 through 2008 Toyota Solara and 2002 through 2006 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
Relieve the fuel system pressure. Remove the fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If the tank is full or nearly full, siphon the fuel into an approved container using a siphoning kit. Warning: Do not start the siphoning action by mouth! Raise the vehicle and securely place it on jackstands. Completely remove the exhaust system from the center exhaust pipe to the rear of the vehicle. Disconnect the fuel lines, vapor return line, and fuel inlet pipe from the fuel tank fittings. Be sure to plug the hoses to prevent leakage and contamination of the fuel system. Remove the four fasteners securing the exhaust heat shield below the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank with a floor jack. Place a sturdy plank between the jack head and the fuel tank to protect the tank. Remove the bolts from the fuel tank retaining straps. Remove the tank from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
