The headlights must be aimed correctly to avoid blinding oncoming drivers and to ensure optimal visibility on the road. It's important to check the aim every 12 months and whenever a new headlight is installed or front-end body work is done. Each headlight housing features a vertical adjusting screw for up-and-down movement, accessible with a long Phillips screwdriver, and a horizontal adjuster screw that is locked in place by a retainer, which should only be adjusted when replacing the housing. To adjust the headlights, position a blank wall 25 feet in front of the vehicle and use masking tape to mark the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights, along with a horizontal tape line for reference. Ensure the vehicle is level, with a half-full gas tank and no heavy load. For low beam adjustment, set the high-intensity zone two inches below the horizontal line and two inches to the side away from oncoming traffic, adjusting the top screw accordingly. With high beams on, the high-intensity zone should be centered just below the horizontal line, keeping in mind that low beams are more critical for safety. It is advisable to have the headlights professionally adjusted at the earliest opportunity. Additionally, fog light housings are adjustable from under the front of the vehicle, though adjustment is typically unnecessary unless replacement is required.
