Q:
What is the importance of the load sensing proportioning and bypass valve (LSP & BV) in trucks? Posted by Customer
A:
The center of gravity on a truck is higher than a car, causing the weight to be biased towards the front when the brakes are applied. This results in the front brakes requiring more hydraulic pressure and the rear brakes requiring less to prevent locking. Trucks are equipped with a Brake Proportioning Valve and bypass valve (LSP & BV) that adjusts the braking bias based on the weight of the load. It is important to cover painted surfaces and avoid spilling brake fluid during maintenance. Servicing the LSP & BV at home is not recommended due to the specialized gauge set required, but it can be replaced by the vehicle owner. However, adjusting the unit should be done by a dealer service department or qualified repair shop. Removal and installation instructions vary depending on the model of the vehicle. After installation, it is necessary to bleed the brake hydraulic system and have the LSP & BV adjusted by a professional.
