The EVAP canister purge valve is located on the side of the air intake tube and may also be known as the purge Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV), which should not be confused with the ACIS VSV. To remove the purge valve, detach the claw at its base from the air intake tube, disconnect the electrical connector and harness clip, and then disconnect the EVAP hoses. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. Before working on the EVAP canister, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, and remove the inner and outer under-vehicle splash shields located in front of the fuel tank. Disconnect the three EVAP hoses and the leak detection pump electrical connector from the canister, then remove the four bolts to separate the canister from the underside of the vehicle. If installing a new canister, detach the brackets held by plastic claws and transfer the leak detection pump to the new canister, with installation following the reverse order of removal. The Leak Detection Pump (LDP), also known as the canister pump module, is attached to the EVAP canister. To remove the LDP, first clean the canister of dirt and debris, then depress the locking tabs on each side securing the LDP to the canister and pull it off using a screwdriver for leverage. Installation is the reverse of removal.
