Q:
How to check and replace the PCV valve? Posted by Customer
A:
The PCV valve is typically located in the valve cover. To check it, you should have the engine idling at normal operating temperature, then pull the valve (with hose attached) from the valve cover or intake manifold. You can test for vacuum by placing your finger over the valve opening or hose. If there's no vacuum, you may have a plugged hose, manifold port, or the valve itself, and any plugged or deteriorated hoses should be replaced. You can also check the valve by turning off the engine and shaking it, listening for a rattle. If it doesn't rattle, it needs to be replaced. When replacing the valve, note its installed position and ensure the replacement is for your specific vehicle and engine size. The new valve should be pushed into the end of the hose until it's seated. Finally, inspect all rubber hoses and grommets for damage and hardening, replacing them if necessary, and press the PCV valve and hose securely into position.
