Toyota MR2 Spyder Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

Because Toyota MR2 Spyder comes from the same platform as Toyota MR2, it shares some problem with Toyota MR2 as well according to owners globally. And here are the most common problems happen to MR2 Spyder:
First, braking and engine issues. Based on the complaints collected from MR2 Spyder owners, the parking cable could not hold the car properly or could not function at all. And the parking brake light may come on. We can assume that there is something wrong with the parking brake cable. As for engine issues, common signs include bad gas mileage, rough idle, slow acceleration, misfiring, hard to start the vehicle. You can try checking the oxygen sensor, spark plug and fuel filter if sense any above signs appear on your Toyota MR2 Spyder.
Second, transmission and suspension problem. Transmission problem often shows as sharp whirring, rattling or grinding noises while depressing clutch or MR2 Spyder would shudder during acceleration and could not go into right gears, which mostly is caused by broken shift cable, output shaft bearing, synchronizer ring, release bearing or transfer case output snap ring. As for suspension problem, you had better check your MR2 Spyder shock and strut mount, carrier bearing spacer, wheel bearing, pinion bearing and coil spring insulator if the vehicle starts to bottom out.
What's more, some unimpressive auto parts need your meticulous maintenance to keep your Toyota MR2 Spyder at the best shape. Headlight could work as light for forward road conditions and warning light for other drivers and pedestrians, it is very important for your safety.
