  Regardless of whether the cylinder head was sent to an automotive repair shop for valve servicing, ensure it is clean before beginning reassembly. If the head was sent out for a valve job, the valves and related components will already be installed, so start the reassembly procedure with the next step. Install new seals on each valve guide by gently tapping each seal into place with a hammer and deep socket until fully seated, avoiding any twisting or cocking during installation to ensure proper sealing on the valve stems. Starting at one end of the head, lubricate and install the first valve, applying moly-base grease or clean engine oil to the valve stem. Drop the spring seat into place, followed by the valve spring, shield, and retainer, ensuring the more widely spaced coils of the valve spring are at the top. Use a valve spring compressor to compress the springs, position the keepers on the keeper groove in the stem, and slowly release the compressor to ensure the keepers seat properly, applying a small dab of grease to hold each keeper in place if necessary. Repeat this procedure for each valve, ensuring that all components are returned to their original locations without mixing them up. Finally, lubricate the retainers and valve lifters with moly-base grease, engine assembly lube, or clean engine oil, and install each lifter into its corresponding bore.
