How to remove and install a starter motor for the 1994 Toyota Tercel?

Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Caution: If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Detach the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid assembly. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts. To remove the starter motor/solenoid assembly, detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the bolts. The other two bolts are located in the upper section of the bellhousing. Note: If equipped with a manual transmission, it may be necessary to remove the clutch release cylinder. Remove the mounting bolts and move the cylinder aside, but DO NOT disconnect the hydraulic line. Remove the bracket from the upper section of the starter/solenoid assembly. It is necessary to loosen one or two of the bracket bolts to allow the starter/solenoid assembly to partially drop down to gain access to the remaining bracket assembly bolts and hardware. Installation is the reverse of removal.
