Before removing suspension strut, engage handbrake, loosen the front wheel bolts, raise the front of the car on a jack and secure it using stands, and finally, take of the roadwheel and the engine lower panel. If done, using the small screwdriver remove the professional ABS wiring clip on the hub. Subsequently, undo the nut and bolt that belongs to the brake flexible hose and support bracket of the ABS wiring on the suspension strut and free up this hose and wiring. Take the nuts off the bolts joining the swivel hub to the suspension strut with the regard the bolts; further remove the strut base from the hub by knocking them apart. Open the three upper mounting nuts on the inner side of the guard and it would be easier to do this if the scuttle panel has been removed. Take out the windscreen wiper motor and unscrew the bolts that hold the scuttle panel After supporting the strut from under the wheel arch unscrew the upper mounting nuts to lower the strut out. In the overhaul, the spring compressor tool is required; when wrapping the coil spring around the pushrod ensure that the tool is firmly fixed. Take off the centre cap of the strut, then lock the upper spring seat with an approximate of the hex key and use two bolts for twisting the screwdriver to free the piston rod centre nut. I would un-bolt the top mounting plate, dust seal, spacer, upper spring seat, dust boot, spring and a rubber bump stop and inspect all components for signs of wear/ damage. Examine the strut for signs of leakage and perform function check; if this is positive, then the strut will have to be renewed. Check for stress on the coil spring and if observed, replace the same. Rebuild the spring compressor tool, place the spring on the strut and adjust it as it should be. Install the rubber bump stop, then fit the dust boot, upper spring seat, and the top mounting plate in their correct position. Thread a new piston rod nut and the nut is tightened to the standard torque before gradually releasing the spring compressor tool in order to set the spring correctly. Last but not least, renew the grease in the top of the strut hole and then simply snap the center cap back in place. To refit carry out the process in reverse of the removal procedure; make sure the swivel hub-to-strut bolts are installed from the front; tighten all the screws to the torque specified; and check the front wheel alignment after the operation.
