- Q:How Can Car Batteries Be Checked and Replaced for the 2010 Toyota Prius?Posted by Balchandra H.A:Specifically, the surface charge is switched on first and off immediately after the high beams are switched on for ten seconds, then remove your hands from the battery terminals and wait for the car's engine to stand for at least two minutes. Another parameter dependent on the battery is the state of charge, the indicator of which is the indicator eye, therefore, if the eye is clear, the battery must be charged. Engine off and all accessories off an open voltage circuit test through a digital voltmeter should be made with the negative probe touching the dint terminal and the positive probe touching the positive terminal, to get a voltage figure that is 12.6 volts or more. If the voltage is low, then the battery should be charged before moving toward a load test since a load test allow the battery to be tested on its ability to perform under heavy amperage. The load should be held for 15 seconds and amperage counts should not fall below 2A, 7A for a second connected battery and with the voltage count going down to 9.6 volts for a second connected battery which must be increased during cold conditions. The battery of models for the years 2001 to 2003 is located by removing the luggage compartment lid. On the model years of 2004 to 2009 and from inside the car, one has to open the rear hatch and lift the cargo area cover in order to pull out the battery that is on the right hand side; this implies that certain things like the power supply connector, the cooling duct were had to be removed. Again for the 2009 and earlier model, the first terminal that should be removed is the negative and then the positive one and then the hold-down clamp. On the 2010 and later models, the entire rear floorboard has to be taken out to access the battery, and before that, the negative cable should be disconnected followed by the positive cable and the battery temperature sensor.
