  Q: How to replace and adjust the Park/Neutral Position switch on Toyota Avalon and Toyota Camry?

  A: The Park/Neutral Position switch controls the Park/Neutral function, backup light switch, and gear position information. It only allows engine start in Park or Neutral. To replace the switch on 2009 and earlier four-cylinder models, raise the vehicle, disconnect the connector, remove the lever retaining nut, lock plate, switch retaining bolts, and the switch. For V6 models and 2010 and later four-cylinder models, remove the engine cover, air filter housing, transaxle cable bracket clip, control cable retaining nut, wiring harness clamp, and connector. Then remove the control shaft lever nut washer and lever, switch retaining bolts, and clean the switch area before removing the switch. To adjust, loosen the bolts, align the switch, and tighten the bolts.
