How to Replace the Rear Liftgate Lift Support on a Toyota Celica?

The trunk lid/rear liftgate is heavy and somewhat awkward to hold securely while replacing the Liftgate Lift Support - at least two people should perform this procedure. With the trunk lid/rear liftgate open, loosen the upper retention bolt, but do not remove it at this stage. Make sure that the trunk lid/rear liftgate is secure and remove the lower retention bolt. Return to the upper retention bolt, remove the bolt, and pull the strut free for the removal procedure. Be sure to read the accompanying text. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

The trunk lid/rear liftgate is heavy and somewhat awkward to hold securely while replacing the Liftgate Lift Support - at least two people should perform this procedure. With the trunk lid/rear liftgate open, loosen the upper retention bolt, but do not remove it at this stage. Make sure that the trunk lid/rear liftgate is secure and remove the lower retention bolt. Return to the upper retention bolt, remove the bolt, and pull the strut free for the removal procedure. Be sure to read the accompanying text. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
