- A:The trunk lid/rear liftgate is heavy and somewhat awkward to hold securely while replacing the struts - at least two people should perform this procedure. With the trunk lid/rear liftgate open, loosen the upper retention bolt, but do not remove it at this stage. Ensure that the trunk lid/rear liftgate is securely supported and remove the lower retention bolt. Return to the upper retention bolt, remove the bolt, and pull the strut free for the removal procedure. Be sure to read the accompanying text.
