Remove the
Starter Motor. Scribe or paint a mark across the starter motor and gear reduction assembly before disassembling the starter motor, solenoid, and gear reduction assembly. Disconnect the strap from the solenoid to the starter motor by removing the nut. Detach the solenoid from the starter motor by removing the screws that secure the gear reduction assembly to the solenoid. Remove the through-bolts that secure the starter motor to the gear reduction assembly. Separate the motor from the gear reduction and solenoid assembly, then remove the solenoid from the gear reduction assembly, noting the return spring protruding from the solenoid assembly, ensuring this spring is installed before reassembling the solenoid and the gear reduction assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure to align the paint or scribe mark.
