The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) determines the timing for fuel injection and ignition on each cylinder, and it is mounted on the timing chain cover next to the crankshaft pulley. A problem in the crankshaft sensor circuit will set a diagnostic trouble code. Begin by loosening the right front wheel lug nuts and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel and the inner fender shield. Remove the two bolts that secure the sensor and detach it, ensuring to disconnect the harness connector at the upper part of the timing chain cover. Installation is the reverse of removal, and it is important to use a new O-ring on the sensor, lightly coated with engine oil.
