  A: Loosen the clamp nut and detach the earth lead from the battery negative terminal post. Remove the Drive Belt. Jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands. Disconnect the main wiring plug and undo the nut securing the battery supply cable. Lift off the supply cable and place it to one side. Support the alternator and remove the upper adjuster lockbolt and lower pivot bolt. Remove the alternator from its mounting lugs on the engine. Manoeuvre the alternator out of the engine compartment. Refitting is a reversal of removal, ensuring that the pivot and lockbolts are hand-tight to begin with. Reconnect the wiring correctly and tighten the retaining nuts. Refit and tension the auxiliary drivebelt.
