How to remove and refit the front and rear bumpers on Toyota Echo?

To remove the front bumper, open the bonnet and prise out the central clip or clips at the top edge of the bumper. In the wheel arch, remove the screw or fastener securing the top rear corner of the bumper on each side. Jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands, then remove the engine undercover panels. Take off the two bolts securing the bumper lower trim piece at either end and remove the trim. Prise out the plastic trim clips securing the front part of the wheel arch liner and pull it away from the bumper. For models with front foglights, disconnect the wiring plug behind each light unit. The bumper is secured by four clips, one at each end and one just inside the lower corner of each headlight; pull the bumper end outwards sharply to release the end clips. The two centre metal clips can be prised upwards with a screwdriver, allowing the bumper to be pulled forwards and removed. Refitting is the reverse of removal, with an assistant to help align the bumper and ensure secure tightening of the mountings. For the rear bumper, jack up the rear of the car and support it on axle stands. In the rear wheel arch, unclip and unbolt the rear mudflap from the bumper, then remove the retaining bolt inside the wheel arch. Open the tailgate and remove the two bolts from the corners of the tailgate aperture. The upper plastic section of the bumper is secured by stiff plug-and-socket clips; pull sharply outwards on the bumper ends to detach them. Pull the plastic section rearwards to detach the folded-over edge clips securing it to the metal lower section, and if any clips come off, refit them to the lower section. Reach inside the bumper to twist off the bulbholders from the number plate lights and remove the bumper. If needed, the lower section can be removed by unbolting the nuts and bolts securing it. Refitting is the reverse of removal, ensuring to note that on models with rear parking sensors, new bumpers may require holes to be cut for the sensors, using the old bumper as a template, and having an assistant to help align the bumper and tighten the mountings securely.
