How to remove the Harmonic Balancer on 1997 through 2001 Toyota Avalon?

Remove the oil pan, pick-up tube, and oil pump. Loosen the harmonic balancer mounting bolts in the recommended sequence, 1/4 turn at a time, until you can unscrew them by hand. Remove the harmonic balancer. Secure the spacers with the harmonic balancer assembly by using wire or twist-ties. Before installing it, make sure to check the harmonic balancer for excessive backlash.
