The procedure of fixing the problem of the removal of the transfer case from the transmission on the FJ60 and FJ62 series consists of a series of activities which are cumbersome and require the use of many tools that are special tools hence making the whole process elaborate. For vehicles under the FJ80 series, start by pulling out the gear box inclusive of the transfer case. Make sure the assembly is free of any dust, and remove all mounting bolts, dampers, and dust caps from the transfer case and engage the center differential lock if any. Elevate the transfer case/transmission on the extension with the transfer case on the upper side then unbolt the connection between the transfer case and the transmission. To separate 4WD assembly, it is necessary to pull up the transfer case gently without affecting the rear oil seal. Before reinstalling, look at the rear oil seal of the transmission and replace them if the current ones are worn out. To install the transfer case, insert the splines of the transmission output shaft into the corresponding ones of the transfer case input shaft by rotating the rear drive flange, or turn the flange counterclockwise, and tighten the bolts, nuts and screws in a reverse order as was followed while removing.
