Toyota Prius Heater Core Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to Remove the heater core from my Toyota Prius?
A: In 2001 through 2003 models, the removal procedure for the air conditioning system involves evacuating it by a service facility with the proper equipment. It also includes disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the auxiliary 12-volt battery and performing the initialization procedure upon reconnecting it. Additional steps include removing the wiper arms, rubber cowl top weatherstrip, louvered cowl top covers, wiper motor, ABS relay wiring block, wiper motor wiring harness, outer front cowl top panel, and draining the engine coolant. Disconnecting air conditioning lines, coolant hoses, instrument panel assembly, Blower Motor, defroster duct, and lower air duct, and removing the air conditioning unit is also part of the process. For 2004 through 2009 models, draining the engine coolant, disconnecting air conditioning lines, coolant hoses, instrument panel assembly, floor air duct, upper air ducts, transmission control computer, powertrain control module, network gateway computer, instrument panel brace, and air conditioning amplifier assembly are involved in the removal. The steps further include removing the steering column, disconnecting and labeling various wiring connectors, removing bolts and nuts securing the instrument panel brace and air conditioner, disconnecting the wiring harness, separating the brace from the air conditioner, removing the blower assembly, lower air nozzle, interfering components, and the evaporator temperature sensor. For the removal procedure on other models, removing the windshield wiper motor and linkage, cowl top panel assembly, disconnecting refrigerant tubes, draining coolant, removing the instrument panel, electrical junction block, stop light switch and adjuster, brake pedal support bracket, lower air outlet duct, cover from the base of the steering column, electric motor assembly, air ducts, wiring, instrument panel braces, defroster outlet duct, lower defroster nozzle assembly, middle air duct, instrument panel reinforcement bar, evaporator drain hose, air conditioning unit, screw and clamp from the heater core tubes, and sliding out the heater core from the air conditioning unit are necessary. Installation involves following the reverse order of removal, refilling the cooling system, and having the air conditioning system charged and leak tested at a service facility.
