To clean the throttle body, first remove the air filter housing. Use carburetor cleaner to clean the throttle body, especially if idling problems occur. With the engine off, use aerosol carburetor cleaner, a toothbrush and a rag to clean the throttle body - open the throttle plate so you can see behind it. Make sure the cleaner is safe for use with catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. On 2004 and later models, detach the six clips and remove the radiator top cover. Remove the air filter housing. Clamp off the coolant hoses to the throttle body. Disconnect the throttle position sensor and the control motor wiring connectors. Disconnect the electrical connectors and coolant hoses from the throttle body. Disconnect the PCV, vapor, and coolant hoses. Be prepared for a little coolant spillage. Unscrew the throttle body fasteners and remove the throttle body along with the bracket, if equipped. Using a soft brush and carburetor cleaner, thoroughly clean the throttle body casting, then blow out all passages with compressed air. Caution: Do not clean the throttle position sensor with anything. Just wipe it off carefully with a clean, soft cloth. Installation of the throttle body is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new gasket. Tighten the throttle body mounting bolts/nuts. Check the coolant level, adding as necessary.
