How to remove and install a starter motor on Toyota Rav4?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the battery, battery tray, and reinforcement. Take off the terminal cover and disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid, starting with the positive (B+) terminal, followed by the starter electrical connector. The B+ terminal cover can be easily removed by inserting a screwdriver into each slot on the face of the cover to disengage the tabs. Remove the two starter motor mounting bolts and take out the starter motor assembly from the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the starter motor mounting bolts.

Toyota RAV4 Starter Motor

The Starter Motor on the Toyota RAV4 converts battery electricity into mechanical rotation to crank the engine and allow ignition to begin. A motor unit consists of an armature rotating between the poles of a field coil or permanent magnet. When energized, the electromagnetic force tends to turn the armature and the drive gear. A signal from the ignition switch through a relay and safety switch powers the Starter Motor and moves the drive gear into the flywheel ring gear on an externally mounted solenoid. When the engine fires, an overrunning clutch disengages the gear to protect the Starter Motor. A gear reduction version uses internal gearing so the armature spins quickly while the drive gear turns with extra torque. However, the core purpose remains identical for every Toyota RAV4 application. Every time the start is selected, the Starter Motor operates either due to a neutral safety switch on automatic transmissions or a clutch switch on manual transmissions. Q: How to remove and install a starter motor on Toyota Rav4?
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the battery, battery tray, and reinforcement. Take off the terminal cover and disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid, starting with the positive (B+) terminal, followed by the starter electrical connector. The B+ terminal cover can be easily removed by inserting a screwdriver into each slot on the face of the cover to disengage the tabs. Remove the two starter motor mounting bolts and take out the starter motor assembly from the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the starter motor mounting bolts.
