  Q: What is the proper operation of the compressor clutch for the air conditioning system?

  A: To check the A/C clutch operation, start the engine, set the AC to the coldest setting and fan to high. Open the doors to prevent the system from cycling off. Observe the front of the compressor while pressing the AC button. The clutch should click and rotate. If not, disconnect the AC system pressure switch and use a paperclip as a jumper. If it works, the system pressure may be off and needs professional testing. If the clutch still doesn't work, check the fuses and the "MG CLT" relay. Test for battery power at the number 1 socket. Connect sockets 3 and 5 of the A/C clutch relay with a jumper wire. If the clutch doesn't operate, disconnect the clutch connector and check for continuity between the number 3 terminal of the clutch relay socket and the A/C clutch connector. If there's no continuity, check for an open circuit between the relay box and the A/C clutch connector. If there is continuity, check for an open circuit from the PCM to the relay box.
