Toyota Supra Tie Rod End

Toyota Supra Tie Rod End supplies the connection between the steering motion of the rack and the front wheels. It is located in the steering linkage and converts the rotation of the steering wheel into a swivel at the knuckle, which provides stability. The force path is completed by attaching an inner Tie Rod End to the rack and an outer Tie Rod End to the knuckle. The inner portion transmits the motion of the rack through its threads, and the outer joint is pivoted, allowing the tire to turn. Since the Supra requires this joint to provide alignment, a loose or binding feel can develop as a result of wear in its ball and socket. The Tie Rod End play can be identified by regularly checking the steering system of the Toyota Supra before it can damage the handling. Replacing a worn Toyota Supra Tie Rod End restores steering precision expected from a Toyota coupe while preserving Supra wheel geometry.

Toyota Supra Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly replace a Tie Rod End on a Toyota Supra?
    A:
Half loosen the wheel lug nuts but do not remove them, then safely lift the front part of the vehicle and support it on jack stands, then finally, remove the front wheel. Next release the clamp bolt which secures the tie-rod end to the tie-rod and make an alignment mark on the thread of the tie-rod end so that it may be fitted in the same position again. Unscrew the cotter pin and then you undo the castellated nut that you will find on the tie-rod end stud. Screw off the half of the nut that is attached to the tie-rod end by operating the puller, while loosening the castellated nut several turns to prevent it to suddenly come off, then unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. Screw the tie-rod end while aligning it to reach the alignment mark on the steering rack, then tighten the clamp bolt. Involve the extension of the tie rod end stud through the arm of the steering knuckle and lock it with required torque to engage a new castellated nut and cotter pin. It is suggested that the toe-in should be adjusted using the car at a dealer service department or at an alignment shop after install of the tie-rod end.
