Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands while applying the parking brake before removing the wheel. For 2WD T100 models, remove the engine under cover and the
Torsion Bar. For 4Runner and 4WD Tacoma models, remove the steering gear assembly. Disconnect the
Shock Absorber from the lower control arm on T100 models, and for 2WD Tacoma models, remove the shock absorber; on 4Runner and 4WD Tacoma models, disconnect the shock absorber/coil spring assembly from the lower control arm. Compress the coil spring with an internal type coil spring compressor for 2WD Tacoma models. Remove the stabilizer bar link and the stabilizer bushing clamp nearest the lower control arm. For 2WD T100 models, remove the strut bar, and support the lower control arm with a floor jack for 2WD Tacoma models. Disconnect the
Steering Knuckle from the lower control arm, then for 2WD T100 models, remove the pivot bolt nut and the lower control arm. For 4Runner and 4WD pick-up models, make alignment marks on the front and rear adjusting cams, then remove the front and rear nuts and pivot bolts to take out the lower control arm. For 2WD Tacoma models, loosen the lower control arm pivot bolt and nut, loosen the forward end of the strut bar from the frame, remove both bolts, and take out the tower control arm and strut bar as an assembly, guiding the compressed coil spring out during this process. If replacing the lower arm on a 2WD Tacoma model, remove the strut bar and lower-suspension arm No. 3, then install them on the new arm, ensuring to tighten the strut-to-lower control arm nuts and the lower suspension arm 3 retaining nuts to the specified torque. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that alignment marks are lined up for models with adjusting cams, and tightening all suspension fasteners to the specified torque, with pivot bolts/nuts tightened at normal ride height, which can be achieved after lowering the vehicle to the ground or by raising the lower control arm with a floor jack.
