The Toyota T100 Igniter carries out on and off electronic switching of the ignition coil circuit to produce just the right high voltage spike needed by each cylinder for clean combustion. Like some more recognizable spark components, the compact unit sits hidden. It receives timing cues from either distributor pickups or the crankshaft sensor. It interrupts the coil current at that very microsecond, collapsing the magnetic field, which steps the voltage up to roughly 15,000 to 40,000 volts to the spark plugs. The Igniter's split-second action in every Toyota T100 pickup provides smooth starts and steady power. Early Toyota T100 models utilized an Igniter mounted on the distributor that is triggered by either a magnetic pickup or hall effect sensor. The ignition systems retained manual base timing and mechanical advance as with previous HEI designs. Later, a distributorless model became available in which the Igniter role was taken over by a computer-controlled unit designed to work in conjunction with the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. This later design provides fully automatic ignition timing adjustment at all speeds and loads, enabling better power, fuel economy, and emissions control. In spite of better reliability, heat and age can still render an Igniter incapable of sparking, which instantly stops the spark and blocks the engine from starting. In distributorless ignition systems there is the igniter incorporated in the coil assembly and hence cannot be refitted. Start by loosening the cable of the negative terminal from the battery, and if the stereo has an anti-theft system then ensure that you have the right code to enter. Then, unplug the electrical connector from the igniter, after that take out the screws at the bracket and at last, the igniter bracket assembly can be held and removed from the engine compartment. The last step of the process resembles the previous, that is, they are carried out in the reversed sequence to installation.
