Special care is needed in this procedure if the car stereo system has an anti-hijack impedance; make certain that a right code for its activation is available before disconnecting the battery. Removing the terminal for a long time leaves the airbag system out of order, and if the airbag lamp persists even when the terminal is connected back, then a SCUV service department has to reset the system with a special device. When performing an interim check: examine each battery cable for such things as cut, split or scorched insulation and other signs of corrosion, because bad connections can cause a starting problem and poor performance. Examine the cable to terminal connections for any splits, individual loose strands, and corrosion; whitish powdery substance signifies corrosion and therefore the cable should be replaced. It is advisable to always remove the negative terminal first and re-attach it last to avoid a simple connection making a short circuit of the battery. Upon disconnecting the cables, follow them to the other end to disconnect them from the
Starter Solenoid and the ground terminals and okay the route as a guide for reinstallation. If replacing cables, the old units should be brought so that similar parts are purchased wherein positive cables are usually red and larger while ground cables are black and smaller. Check the threads of the solenoid or ground connection and brush them with a wire brush; protect against future problems by applying anti-corrosion gel or Vaseline. While stripping the cable; make sure it is long enough to avoid stretching on the solenoid or ground connection and connect the positive cable before the negative one.
