Remove the starter motor. Scribe or paint a mark across the starter motor and gear reduction assembly before disassembling. Disconnect the strap from the solenoid to the starter motor terminal by removing the nut. Remove the screws securing the gear reduction assembly to the solenoid. Remove the through-bolts securing the starter motor to the gear reduction assembly. Separate the motor from the gear reduction and solenoid assembly, then remove the solenoid from the gear reduction assembly, noting the return spring protruding from the solenoid assembly, ensuring it is installed before reassembling. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure to align the paint or scribe mark.
