On Tacoma models, you will find the ECM hidden in the right front corner of the passenger side behind the glovebox. To access the ECM, remove the glovebox. When the engine runs, give it repeated hard taps on the computer side if it's broken, which can make the engine hesitate, stop completely, and show trouble signs during engine testing. Inspect each electrical connection, colored specifically for their correct places on the computer body. Tell the experts at a dealer service or reputable repair shop to check your engine control module if you can't see signs of damage. Ground yourself before you can take the ECM out by disconnecting power from both the battery and the vehicle body. Always handle the ECM with care, whether touching a safe vehicle ground or yourself. Loosen and remove the mounting screws, take out the ECM carefully, and the reverse process puts it back.
