Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and raise the front of the vehicle, placing it securely on jackstands. For V6 models, the starter motor is located on the left side of the engine block, just ahead of the transmission. Remove the rear engine under-cover if equipped, and on 2WD models, remove the three manifold support bracket bolts and the support bracket. For 4WD models, remove the left part of the front exhaust pipe assembly, disengage the clips securing the left rear part of the inner fender splash shield, and remove the splash shield. Disconnect the steering column intermediate shaft, then disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter motor/solenoid assembly by removing the nut and disconnecting the battery starter cable from the B+ terminal, followed by the electrical connector from the starter. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts and the starter motor itself. For four-cylinder models, the starter motor is also located on the left side of the engine block, just ahead of the transmission. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter motor by removing the cover, the nut, and the battery starter cable from the B+ terminal, followed by the electrical connector. Remove the two starter motor mounting bolts and the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the starter motor mounting bolts are tightened securely.
